Abbeylands and Castle Carraig had wins in the opening round of qualifiers for the newly introduced AIRC Team Jumping Championship for RC 70 and RC 80 graded riders.
The team of Martin Reid (Lyra Golden Serpent), Lauren Morgan (Metal John), and Laura Reid (Black Sod) secured the win in West Leinster from a field of four teams ahead of Killcarrick and Oakleaf in second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, at the Ballinasloe showgrounds, six teams from five clubs went head to head at the AIRC West region qualifier where Tony Ennis set a nine fence track for the decider.
It was to be Castle Carraigs day as the Clare based club ran out victors after Amie Barret (Oscar The Star), Monica Hegarty (Lucky’s Girl), Karina Mescal (I’m Finished Hunting) and
Deirdre Cronin (Ardsbeg Buddy) finished on 5 penalties.
Barnacarroll claimed the runners-up spot ahead of Westport in third.
The highest-placed eligible team will receive an invitation to compete at the final at next month’s AIRC Riding Clubs Festival.
