Benbulben Riding Club have qualified for the AIRC Team Show Jumping Championship for the second successive year.
15 teams from nine clubs participated in the qualifier for the West region at Tubberbride Stables, Co. Sligo last Sunday.
The host club was out in front after the first round was complete with two teams level on zero over Richard Kerins testing but fair track.
Teams from Barnacaroll, Tynagh and Tir Conaill along with two further teams from Benbulben were following on 4 penalties.
The Benbulben team of Therese Anderson (Killian Boy), Emma O’Connor (Acrefield Enzo), Rebekah Tansey (First Instinct) and Louise Walsh (Doonaveeragh Claire) maintained the pressure to claim the spoils after they were the only team to finish on a clean sheet.
The Tir Conaill team took the runners-up spot after Leigha Greene (Star of the Rosses), Charlie Vial (Vancouver Cruise), Mark Ward (Wild Child) and Stephen Greene (Indian Puzzle) were level with another Benbulben team on 4 faults each but time favoured the Donegal based club to take the spot in next month’s wildcard qualifier at the AIRC Riding Clubs Festival.
Corrib, Burren and Barnacarroll took the remaining places in fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
