Greenhills Riding Club will return to the final of the AIRC Team Show Jumping Championship at the RDS after thw Kildare club won a two-way jump-off last Sunday.
Nine teams from the West Leinster area contested the final regional decider of the series at Coilog Equestrian Centre.
On what was a testy track, at the end of Round One Greenhills and Killcarrick were tied for the lead on a score of 4 penalties with Winterdown a little further back on 9.
Only 6 teams finished the second round and as the competition got down to the last two riders, Greenhills and Killcarrick had opened the gap from the rest of the field but remained inseparable on 4 penalties each. Both captains maintained the pressure to deliver for their teams forcing a two-way jump-off.
Elaine Hatton went first for the Killcarrick club and jumped clear in a time of 47.62 on Rising Crest to pile on the pressure but once again, Roland Dalton held his nerve and his experience showed as he jumped clear in a time of 45.29 on Mrs Maggie to take the spoils. More importantly Dalton and his team mates of Jane Fallon (Beachball Sally), Lesley McKenna (Lincoln Lane) and Grainne Alexander (Cheeky Blonde) booked their place in the final at the RDS in August.
The Killcarrick team of Claire Hutchinson (Indian Lights), Maria Cox (My Irish Coolcorron Misty), William Coughlin (Craven Lodge) and Elaine Hatton (Rising Crest) will go forward to the Wildcard Qualifier at next months AIRC Riding Clubs Festival for a second chance.
Rathfarnham completed the podium in third place on 14 penalties with Winterdown, Abbeylands and Castledermot completing the top six respectively.
