Killossery, who are reigning Team Show Jumping Champions, were dethroned by Cheval Riding Club who won the north east Horseware qualifier on Sunday as they were the only team to finish on a clean sheet.
16 teams representing 10 clubs from around the region contested the decider at Kernans Equestrian in Armagh. Cheval led from start to finish as they were the only team with nothing to add after the opening round. Teams from Boyneside, Border Counties, Castle Leslie, Cheval, Copperfield, Killossery and Mullaghmore followed closely behind on 4 penalties.
The cheval quartet of Nuala Stafford (Mistify Me), Ita Kinahan (La Perle), Claire O’Dwyer (Cut Above) and Laura Carrick (My Foxy Lass) won the contest outright after their captain Laura Carrick pulled off a double clear round on My Foxy Lass when it was required to keep the team on a clean sheet.
Killossery, will have a second chance to defend their national title in the wildcard qualifier at the Riding Clubs Festival, after they claimed the runners-up spot.
