Western Region Connolly’s RED MILLS National Dressage Qualifiers Deliver Top-Class Competition at Glenamaddy Equestrian Centre. Last Sunday, the Western Region National Dressage Qualifiers were held at the Glenamaddy Equestrian Centre, once again hosted by Glenway Riding Club. With eight teams competing for just two coveted qualifying spots, the competition was fierce from start to finish.
Running alongside the team event were the individual qualifiers, which saw over 50 tests ridden throughout the day. With such a high standard of riding on display, it was no easy task for the two judges, Danielle Carey and Elena Satalkina, to separate the performances. “Everyone rode their socks off,” commented Aimi Patrick-Winstanley, Secretary of Glenway Riding Club. “The standard was so high—our judges certainly had their work cut out for them.”
In the team event, it was Tynagh Riding Club who emerged victorious, securing the top qualifying position with a series of strong performances. They were closely followed by Westport Riding Club, who also earned their place to represent the Western Region in the National Championships.
The individual classes were equally competitive. Local vet Kate Murray claimed the Novice title aboard her own Connemara stallion Lough Fadda Rudi. In the RC Preliminary 3 (RCP3) category, Laurent Kerins of Westport Riding Club took top honours with Lankill Lad. The RC
Preliminary 2 (RCP2) title went to Siobhán Garrett-Cooney riding Freddie Flintoff for The Burren Riding Club. Meanwhile, the RC Preliminary 1 (RCP1) top placing went to Catherine Ferrie in a class that was hotly contested and showcased strong up-and-coming talent.
With Judges nominating their favourite best turned out riders, all 10 nominations went into a draw to be “Best turned out of the show” and the winner was Glenway’s very own Lisa Clyne.
It was a fantastic day of sport, camaraderie, and exceptional horsemanship. The Glenway Riding Club and Glenamaddy Equestrian Centre once again provided a top-tier venue, and the atmosphere was one of support and celebration.
We look forward to cheering on all of our Western Region representatives at the National Championships!
