Four teams have qualified for the AIRC National Dressage Championships in August including Barrow Valley, Kilotteran, Thomastown and District and defending champions Waterford.

Qualification was highly sought after as 16 teams representing 10 clubs from around the South East took part in the regional qualifier at Danville House in Kilkenny on Sunday 19th June.

Thomastown and District notched up a significant lead of almost 13% over their nearest rivals to claim the victory after Daniela Cardillo Corr (Flight of the Phoenix), Jade Douglas (Carrigbeg Coco), Aisling Brett (Annaveigh Mac) all registered impressive counting scores while Naomi Shairp (Krafty Harry) had the discard score to give the team a total of 446.17%.

The runners-up team consisted of Donna O’Neill (Honest Robber (IRE)), Julie Finnegan (Callowfeenish Silver) and Clare Butler (Mayflower Willow) from the Kilotteran club in Waterford on 433.66%.

They had an almost 5% advantage over Waterford Riding Club who completed the podium on a total of 427.98%. The club had won the team championship last year and will be hoping their team of Helen Alexander (Grangefort Heather), Fidelma Curran (Ballyadam Philip), Jean Power (Briska Lad) and Scott Pheasey (Cillbhrid Furzeknock Iggy) can defend their national title at the championships in August.
Barrow took the remaining qualification spot after their fourth place finish with a team total of 422.9%.
