Mosstown Riding Club won the TRI Equestrian advanced primary team event where the winners finished on their opening round score of two-time penalties at the Riding Clubs Festival last weekend.
The Mosstown club was the very first team into the ring on the day and after double clear rounds from Emer O’Donnell (Mosstown Tod), and Ruth Harrison (Mosstown Chancer) gave the Longford club a solid base to build from. A further clear round from Ann Marie Doyle (Blue Warrior) while Sue Moles jumped clear on Captain James T Hook looked good but with 2-time penalties on the board, the club had a long wait to find out if they had done enough.
As the competition progressed throughout the morning, no club managed to finish near the pathfinders with a combined team from Friary, Slieve Bloom and Three Counties taking second place.
The team of Julie Polden (Not More Clover), Emily Hogan (Roden Steady Eddie), Regina Hoctor (Seamaid Millie) and Vicky Collins improved in their second round to add nothing to their first-round total of 8 penalties.
Kilrainy claimed the yellow ribbons after the Kildare based club ended up on 12 penalties.
15 teams contested the TRI Equestrian Intermediate team event which took place throughout Sunday where competitors found Pauric Geraghty’s 12 fence track with 15 jumping efforts unforgiving.
Caroline Grehan proved crucial to the winning team as the Meath rider produced the only double clear round of the competition on Ringwood Minim. The combined Meath and Mullingar team completed the opening round on 4 penalties but added a further 12 in the second round to finish on 16. This, however, was good enough to claims the spoils for Grehan who was joined by Shane Broughla (Little Miss Money Penny), John Jordan (Branstown Diamond) and Avril Tormey (Hunting Mannin Lass).
The three-person team of Meredith Jackson (Rockrimmon Buddy), Enda McKenna (Smoke Eye Joe) and Pamela Stevenson (Golden Bready) finished on a tally of 20 penalties to claim the blue ribbons ahead of a Ballycanew/Coole Lane quartet in third with 21 penalties
A combined Kilrainy and Rathangan team won the TRI Equestrian primary team event after the quartet finished on a clean sheet.
John O’Connell (Marilyn Mansons Comet) and Karen Fearon (Ailleacht Dubh) provided double clear rounds for the winning team while Ruth Dargan ((Picassos Colours) and Sandra Cullen (Blackriver Juana Jump) also provided clear rounds.
Second place went to a mixed team from the South East comprising of members from Ballycanew, Coole Lane and Russellstown. The team of Deirdre Deegan (Dexters Pride), Martin Carroll (Ardlea Indian Lady), Sandra Doody (Test of Courage) and Cheryl Keogh (Dizzy Izzy) finished on 8 penalties to take the blue ribbons.
