Thomastown and District Riding Club won the latest team championship qualifier for the Connolly’s Red Mills National Dressage Championships for the second year in a row.
Eleven teams representing 8 clubs in the South East took part in the qualifier at Wexford Equestrian where a mere 0.2% separated the top two teams.
The Thomastown team of Jo Forde (Blue Lake Richard), Jade Douglas (Carrigbeg Coco), Caroline Carey (Irish Drummer Boy) and Lorraine Hoyne Casey (Knockpower Playto) overcame their Wexford rivals to take the top spot on a total of 213.9%.
There was very little between the teams as the runners-up accumulated 231.7% but the team comprising of Melanie Hammel (Taylors Slaney Cruise), Catriona O’ Brien (Templemichael Siogai), Vicky Cloney (Gentle Bouncer) and Darren Rossiter (North Dakota Dawn) can take some comfort as they qualified for the finals in August.
The Carlow based Coole Lane club, also secured its place at the final after Antonia de Burgh (Gypsy Cobra Cruise), Lisa Mulhall (The Prodigal Son), Sandra Myers (Miss Saulsford) and Sandra Doody (Test of Courage) took third place on 210.6%.
The remaining places were filled by another Carne team, Warrington and Waterford who finished in fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
