Thomastown and District Riding Club secured one the remaining places on offer at the Horseware Team Show Jumping Championship final at the Dublin Horse Show after they won the South East qualifier on Sunday.
The Kilkenny based club was the only team to finish on a clean sheet out of the 23 teams who lined out at Warrington Top Flight Equestrian Centre in Kilkenny.
After the opening round, just three teams returned with nothing to add over Tom Moloney’s course and they included Horetown, Thomastown and District, and Tinahely.
It was a nerve-wracking second round as Tinahely dropped out of contention while Horetown finished on four faults and had to settle for third place in the end after Carne moved up into second place as the Wexford based club finished fastest of the four-faulters.
Thomastown and District Riding Club put in a strong second round performance to claim the top spot and secured their place in the final after clear rounds from Jade Douglas (Carrigbeg Coco), Maria Rockett (Stonehavens Olive) and Aisling Micklas (Lassban Miss Congeniality). Their captain Jessica Ryan didn’t have to take to the arena on Barrettstown Close Shave as it was an emphatic win for the Kilkenny based club who will compete in the final for the third time.

The Carne team of Alannah Lacey (Baby Bouncer), Christine Keymer (Dazling Star), Ann Lambert (Killinick Bouncer) and Breda Rowe (Kilminchy Rodrigo) will have a second chance to qualify at the Riding Clubs Festival in the coming weeks.
With Horetown in third place, the hosts Warrington filled fourth ahead of Coolbell and another Carne team in fifth and sixth respectively.
