Earls Well Riding Club won The Irish Field Musical Ride for the third year in a row at the recent Riding Clubs Festival at Mullingar Equestrian Centre, Co. Westmeath.
Spectators gathered around the International Grass arena on Saturday evening where two clubs contested the competition in front of judges, Tony Ennis and Isabel Hurley, editor of the Irish Horse World.
The Cork-based club came out on top with a score of 72.31% for their interpretation of The Young Offenders. Benbulben Riding Club, however, had to settle for second place for the second year running after heir score of 66.15%.
The winning team included Mairead O’ Donovan (Sunvalley Lady Sox), Susan O’ Regan (Adamstown Boy), Margaret O’ Shea (Castlewhite Rosie), Kate O’ Shea (Send Me On), Aimee Garrett (Dear Darlin), Tanya Waugh (Good Man Bertie), Danielle Sievewright (Annesbrook Billy) and Eibhlin Foley (Rogue Trader).
Kay Fitton, who was the coordinator of the winning teams performance, said,
Our theme this year was The Young Offenders, a Cork-based film that recently won 2 IFTA awards and while there was only one other entry as opposed to 7 last year, it was great to win as we always have great fun doing it. Hopefully a few more clubs might take part next year as its a great team event for clubs who are up for a bit of crack!
