The Association of Irish Riding Clubs is delighted to welcome Gerald Bloomer as the accredited coach for the Grassroots Jump Training Series Final, taking place this November.
Gerald brings a wealth of experience as both a high-performance rider and respected coach, making him an invaluable addition to this year’s championship event. His expertise across Dressage and Eventing, combined with his passion for rider development, has earned him a reputation as one of Ireland’s leading equestrian coaches.
Growing up at his family’s Brennanstown Riding School in Co. Wicklow, Gerald has been immersed in horses from an early age. As a Young Rider, he trained under some of the sport’s most influential figures, including Ireland’s Niall Quirke and Anna Merveldt, before further developing his skills with Ingrid Klimke in Germany and Carl Hester in Great Britain. These experiences shaped his approach to both riding and coaching and sparked a lifelong passion for developing riders.
Gerald represented Ireland at Junior and Young Rider European Championships in Dressage alongside Judy Reynolds and competed successfully up to Intermediaire I level. Among his career highlights is winning Individual Gold in Dressage at the 2005 World University Equestrian Championships in Tokyo, as well as securing Team Bronze in the Combined competition with teammates Andrew Bourns and Lee Murphy.
Today, Gerald is currently producing young dressage horses towards future high-performance sport. He competed successfully in Eventing up to 4* level and is a Horse Sport Ireland Level 3 Coach in both Eventing and Dressage. Over the last 8 years, Gerald was coach to both the Irish Junior and subsequently Young Rider Eventing Team, playing a key role in their medal successes – and in developing riders at national and international level. Gerald is also a Tutor and Coach Assessor for Horse Sport Ireland.
Known for his approachable coaching style and attention to detail, Gerald works with riders from Pony Club level through to international high-performance competition. His commitment to building confidence, improving technique and helping riders achieve their goals makes him the ideal coach for the Grassroots Jump Training Series Final.
Competitors can look forward to benefiting from Gerald’s extensive knowledge and experience as they prepare to perform at their best in November.
