The West Midlands Region and West Region finish up the Quailifers for the Connolly’s RED MILLS AIRC Dressage Championships.

The West Midlands Region and West Region both held their qualifiers on the 28th of July.

West Midlands Regional Dressage Qualifiers hosted by the region in Roscrea Equestrian Centre.

Mullingar Riding Club was well presented with Niamh Macken (Diamond King Henry) taking second place in the Novice class, Hannah Martin (Princce Darcy) winning the P1 class and Christa Dillon (Blackhill Kilcoltrim) willing both the Elementary open and Medium open classes.

After receiving their team qualification recently, Thomastown & District were out in force, Charlotte Clear (Ramesses B) came second in the Elementary class. Sharon O’Brien (Chapelhill Tmmie) and Yvonne Hoban (Aghalona Pop It) contested the P2 class coming home with 5th and 2nd respectively. Naomi Shairp won the Young Horse Qualifier class on board Ballyegan Sherlock Holmes.

Friary’s Jackie Dow (Juno Tintreach) had the best score in the P3 class. With only one point between them, second place was  Arderin’s Sally Ryan (The Shoedoctor) and third Friary’s Fiona Wood (Bluesand Little Rock).

The young Horse Open class was the final class of the day, Mill Roads Jennifer Denny on her dad’s 5 year old Llyodsboro Lady having come second at the National Show Jumping Young Horse Championship the week previous, fought it out with Golden Groves Niall Molloy. The latter winning on this occasion his own 4year old thoroughbred Storm Denis.

Twinfort had three riders made up on North Munster Dressage Ireland Secretary Tara Dalton (Burgomistr), Owen Smyth (Darksite) and newlywed Tabitha Millar Hagarty (Westeria Lane). All three won their respective classes putting them in poll position for the team qualifier. Mill Road also had a team of three – Helen Hayes (Harrys Houdini) who qualified for the National Novice championship class, Alice Fitzgerald on her own retrained racehorse Loaded came third in the P2 class and Joann Forbes with Ringwood Mistrel. Twinfort came out on top and won the team qualifier.

West Region Dressage Qualifier was hosted by Glenway Riding Club taking on the role of host for the second of the Western Region Qualifiers. Based in Glenamaddy.

With two arenas in the large outdoor the day kicked off at 10:30, with the sun shining you could not have asked for better conditions.

RCP3 1 Sarah Keane Galway West, 2 Kate Noone Tynagh, 3 Sarah Harvey Westport. RCN 1 Elaine Kinsella Benbulben, 2 Emma O’Connor Benbulben, 3 Ita Walsh Tynagh. RCE 1 Kate Solon Greenhills, RCM 1 Melanie King Corrib. Young Horse 1 Chloe Hester Glenway, 2 Anna Suess.

With 6 teams coming forward for the Teams Qualifier, it was Westport that won the team consisted of  Sophie Gunderson, Sarah Harvey, Susan Wilson, and Shauna O’Malley

Horse First Best Turned Out, went to Chloe Hester and Melanie King.
