Mill Road Riding Club won the latest qualifier for the AIRC Team Show Jumping Championship after a two-way jump-off last Sunday for the second year in a row.
Seven teams, representing five clubs, from the West Midlands region contested the qualifier at Roscrea Equestrian Centre, Co. Tipperary
After the opening round, five teams were level with nothing to add over David Mahers course including Anvil, Clonshire, Golden Grove, Mill Road, and Rock of Cashel.
This, however, was whittled down to just two teams after the two rounds were completed with just Golden Grove and Mill Road remaining on clean sheets to leave the team captains to battle it out.
Pathfinder Jennifer Denny set off on Wild Domaine for the Mill Road club and set a fast time of 35.71 with all fences intact leaving Hayley Ryan all the work to do on Kando. The Golden Grove rider gave it everything but fell just short to finish less than half a second behind in a time of 36.04.
The Mill Road Riding team of Fran Denny (Lloydsboro Lad), Theresa Squarey (Caribou Delaware), Hanna Bjoremark (Matildas Mossy) and Jennifer Denny (Wild Domaine) will go forward to the final at the Dublin Horse Show in August.
The Golden Grove Team of Pat Cantwell (LK Lord), Fergus Ryan (Sliabh Bloom Miss Molly), Colm O’Meara (Ballaghmore Breeze) and Hayley Ryan (Kando) get another chance of qualifying at next month’s AIRC Riding Clubs Festival.
Rock of Cashel completed the podium in third place with Anvil in fourth ahead of Golden Grove and Clonshire in fifth and sixth place respectively.
