The Association of Irish Riding Clubs is introducing a number of new rules for 2017.
The most significant change will affect advanced primary riders in show jumping who will incur time penalties if they exceed the optimum time. from the 1st January.
The optimum time will also be the same as the time allowed for the competition instead of the previously where 3 seconds were deducted from the time allowed.
These changes will put a greater emphasis on the correct pace required for advanced primary show jumping competitions while it will also the gap between the grade and the next level, intermediate. Advanced Primary riders put forward the proposal for consideration and it will now be implemented in 2017.
At the show jumping championships, where competitors are eliminated or retire in the morning qualifiers, they will no longer go forward to the final.
Medical Armbands for cross-country competitions are now recommended but not compulsory.
Other changes include new requirements for show officials, the equine influenza rules have been updated while members and show organisers responsibilities have been clarified.
